(Bishop of Lipari from 1804 to 1806)
The painting, 0the work of Carlo Minaldi, a Sicilian painter active in Messina between 1792 and 1841 and dated 1806, varies the traditional compositional scheme, portraying the bishop standing and lingering over objects such as the Crucifix on the table, rendered with great attention to detail.
Monsignor Riggio, who was originally from Messina, was called upon to occupy honourable and luminous positions even as a priest, as well as being frequently consulted in the most delicate affairs, due to his morose customs and pious spirit. When he arrived on Lipari, he changed the College of Mary, erected by Bishop Coppola, into a monastery of nuns under the title of St Benedict.
He died at the age of 67 and was buried in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in the Cathedral.
