Faldistry cover with coat of arms of Bishop Bonaventura Attanasio (1844-1858). From the sacristy of Lipari Cathedral.
Bishop Attanasio, a native of Lucera and doctor of theology at the University of Naples, was responsible for important restoration work in the bishop’s palace, including the Sicilian majolica flooring on the second floor, where – in the central room – his coat of arms stands out. In addition, in 1855 he restored and turned the building constructed by Bishop Coppola into a seminary, and in the same year he completed the new arrangement of the monument to St Bartholomew in the Marina di San Giovanni (today Marina Corta) with its inscriptions. He was very charitable towards the poor, for whom he often urged the government of Naples to provide extraordinary sums.
