Saint Peter

The painting depicts the apostle Peter with the keys in his hand and in a contrite attitude, with an obvious reference to his denial on account of which he “wept bitterly“. According to descriptions in the Pastoral Visits, the work was originally located on the high altar of the Church of San Pietro al Corso, before the significant restoration and expansion work.
